Another reason to buy organic

When you buy organic skincare products, you’re not only providing the right nutrients your skin needs to remain healthy, you are also helping protect the environment, especially Britain’s rivers.

According to the latest government figures, every river in England is polluted and only one in seven of them meet a ‘good’ ecological standard. Early September, data released by the Environmental Agency showed that only 14 per cent of English rivers could be considered ecologically healthy. The governments Environmental Minister Rebecca Pow admitted it made for “Uncomfortable reading” and added “Urgent action was now required to tackle pollution coming from sewage and agricultural chemicals.”

It is these agricultural practices used in conventional farming that are polluting soils, rivers and eventually oceans. Where nitrate and phosphorus fertilizer is used, it creates runoff which flows into water bodies and develops algae blooms. And when the algae dies, the bacteria use up all the oxygen in decomposing it, thus creating an oxygen dead zone.

According to the Food and Agricultural Organisation (2013) "The most effective way of reducing the negative effects of harmful chemicals on the environment is to simply reduce the amount of chemicals used." The simplest solution? – Organic farming, which eliminates the need for chemicals and grows yields in the most natural and environmentally-friendly manner.

Organic farms are one of the most environmentally, socially and economically sustainable methods of production and under no circumstances allow the use of synthetic fertilizers, genetically modified (GM) ingredients and herbicides.

So, by choosing to buy skincare products that are 100% organic, remember you are not only providing your skin with an abundance of healthy nutrients, you are also saying NO to conventional farming and helping to save our planets fragile environment in the process…
